About Us

Turnbull Grain and Seed was formed in August 2015. The company had formerly traded as D C Turnbull & Co Ltd, with a long history in the grain and seed industry in South Canterbury, with its first cereal trading happening over 120 years ago. D C Turnbull is the majority shareholder in Turnbull Grain and Seed, while both Murray Duff and Hamish Holland also have a shareholding.

Since the company was formed in 2015 it has continued to build a solid reputation for expert advice and outstanding service to their clients. Turnbull Grain and Seed is run as an independent seed company, sourcing the best chemical and seeds for there clients and with a seed mixing facility in the Timaru they are well set up to do custom seedmixes.  In 2019 Turnbull Grain and Seed expanded the business, purchasing a site in Fairlie. This seed store has a dressing plant, seed mixing capabilities and a chemical store making it well set up to service the Fairlie and Mackenzie areas.

Turnbull Grain and Seed Timaru branch still operates out of the original offices that D C Turnbull had built 120 years ago on 1 Strathallan Street.  The seed mixing and chemical storage areas also located on the same premises, in what use to be a wool store. The site has a lot of character and history.

The Fairlie branch is located at 18 Denmark Street in Fairlie township. The site has a dressing plant that processes most of the oats and ryecorn that Turnbull Grain and Seed sell, as well as many other small seeds, both for Turnbull's own use and for clients. The store has both a chemical store and a strong retail seed offering, with an onsite seed mixing plant
